Academic Support

Are you in post-grad study in education or linguistics, doing that Master’s degree you need for your job, but overwhelmed by the type and quantity of work?

Let Mr May help you!

He works extensively with adults doing part time study towards post graduate programmes at HKU, BU, PolyU and Education U while they work. Many of these people are teachers who need these qualifications for career progression and upskilling. In most cases, it’s been a while since they have studied and they find the pace of these programmes, and the type of knowledge and skills needed, to be a massive obstacle. Mr May can help you navigate this so that you achieve your goals.

Our services.

  • Training

Work with Mr May to develop key skills needed for post-grad success, including literature searches, essay planning and spoken and written style.

  • Consulting

Get advice and support on your work. This can be high order things like discussing research topics, or discussing key principles, or details such as working to optimise language and style in a document or presentation.

  • Course planning and advice

Work with Mr May on planning your studies so that you get the most out of your programme with the least wasted time and effort.

  • Group presentations

Group presentations often carry a lot of marks (40% isn’t unusual) but can be very frustrating. Working with other busy people who may not be motivated and may lack academic skills can turn these into a nightmare. Work with Mr May to manage your group and produce effective, well researched presentations that get the results you want.

  • Manage academic sources

Work with Mr May on identifying key readings that you need for participation in tutorials and to complete assignment work. This includes creating properly formed APA references and reference lists.

  • Literature reviews

Get help with literature searches, document planning, synthesis of different viewpoints from your academic sources, and polishing your final document for submission.

  • Research proposals

Choose research topics, perform lit reviews, consider experiment design and analytical methods under Mr May’s guidance.

  • Research projects

Based on your research proposal and with Mr May’s support, carry out your experiment, analyse results and write it all up for submission (and publication, if that’s your goal).

  • Contributing to Moodle discussions

Most post-grad courses reward active and informed participation in discussions on platforms such as Moodle. Mr May will help you understand how to get the most out of these through effective research and polished language.
