You will need to complete our basic language assessment before starting this course. It is an online assessment that takes about 20 minutes. If you are not comfortable with a computer based test like this, you can come to our office and our staff will walk you through the process. There is a small fee for this assessment.

You should take the IELTS assessment after every two months of training so that your progress can be assessed and your training focused where it will help you the most. We do not arrange IELTS assessments for you, though we can give advice on how to go about doing this. We run regular briefings on the options that are available to you so that you can choose the form that suits you best.

Before beginning this programme, you will need to attend a one hour online session in which we walk you through setting up your online study using our platform, accessing training activities, and writing and submitting essays. There is a small fee for this session.

What you’ll do

  • Use our online tools to write and submit essays and access self study resources and enrichment activities.

  • Attend training in person or via Zoom in one on one sessions with our IELTS trainers. These sessions are each one hour long and you will typically attend two sessions a week. These sessions can be on different days or back to back.

  • Complete writing tasks and submit them using our online platform. These written essays will be assessed by our trainer and discussed in detail with you during one on one training sessions.

  • Prepare for IELTS speaking using our self-study materials and then participate in highly realistic practice exercises during one on one sessions with your IELTS trainer.

  • Receive constant feedback on your performance in speaking and writing tasks that enables you and your trainer to focus work on where it will be the most productive.

  • Access self-study modules on analysing and answering essay and presentation topics, and then structuring coherent essays and presentations in response.

  • (Optionally and at an additional cost) Access self-study modules introducing key topical areas (vocabulary, concepts) using text, video and audio.

  • (Optionally and at an additional cost) Access self-study modules supporting the development of the skills and knowledge needed for the IELTS listening component.

FAQs

I notice that you don’t mention working on IELTS Reading or Listening.

That’s right. We can optionally provide you with (very useful) enrichment activities for these two skills at an additional cost. Our thinking is that you are best to approach these skills through enriching your English and practicing with authentic IELTS past papers. These are available from British Council, Cambridge English and IDP. We strongly recommend that you not use IELTS practice papers from other sources.

I have never done the IELTS assessment before and don’t know what it involves

Your trainer will help you understand the tasks you need t complete and the standard you need to work to. The British Council, Cambridge English, IDP and IELTS.org have free online tests you can use to familiarise yourself with the process.

I don’t like studying online.

Fair enough. Our in person trainer for this programme, Mr Mark Moore, will be happy to work with you.
